Day 1: Departure Delhi (Wednesday)
The Palace on Wheels tour of India starts at the Safdarjung Railway Station in New Delhi. The luxury train leaves the station at 1830 hrs.
One of the most luxurious trains in the world, Palace on Wheels takes passengers on a delightful voyage through time. The weeklong journey takes you through some of the most interesting places in Rajasthan along with Agra and is a great way to get up, close and personal with the rich culture of North India.
Dinner and overnight stay on the train.
Day 02: Jaipur (Thursday), Arrival - 0200 Hrs
Be welcomed by the sight of colorfully decorated elephants at the railway station. Follow this up with a sightseeing tour around the city.
Enjoy a sumptuous lunch at the Rambagh Palace followed by a visit to the Hawa Mahal, also known as the “Palace of winds”. The next stop is the grand Amer Fort, one of the most interesting places to visit in Rajasthan. Also visit the Jantar Mantar, built by Sawai Jai Singh II in the 18th century.
The Palace on Wheels departs for the desert city of Jaisalmer at 1930 hrs.
Dinner and overnight stay on board.
Day 03: Jaisalmer (Friday), Arrival - 0815 Hrs
Enjoy a sightseeing tour of Jaisalmer on arrival.
Jaisalmer is located in the heart of the Thar Desert and is popularly referred to as the “Golden City”. During a sightseeing tour around the city, visit the Jaisalmer Fort built 1156 AD. Also explore some of the beautiful havelis in Jaisalmer followed by some shopping. Later, indulge in an exciting camel ride on the Sam sand dunes. End your day in Jaisalmer with a sumptuous dinner and lively cultural performances arranged at a Jaisalmer hotel.
Leave for Jaipur at 2300 hrs.
Day 04: Jodhpur (Saturday), Arrival - 0700 Hrs
Arrive at Jodhpur in the morning.
The “Blue City” of Jaipur was founded by Rao Jodha in 1459 AD. It is the second largest city in Rajasthan and is home to some very fascinating tourist attractions.
Sightseeing tour of Jodhpur includes a visit to the Mehrangarh Fort. Situated on a 125-meter high hill, the fort houses many palatial structures and an interesting museum. Jaswant Thada with its interesting collection of royal cenotaphs is the next place to visit. Follow this up with lunch at the Umaid Bhawan Palace.
Palace on Wheels leaves for Sawai Madhopur at 1530 hrs.
Day 05: Sawai Madhopur (Sunday), Arrive - 0400 Hrs
Arrive at Sawai Madhopur early in the morning.
Sawai Madho Singh I founded Sawai Madhopur in the 18th century. Home to the Ranthambore National Park, it attracts wildlife enthusiasts from all over the world.
Visit to the Ranthambore National Park in the morning.
Visit the Ranthambore National Park in the morning. Home to a considerable population of tigers, Ranthambore is a wildlife lover’s delight. If you are lucky enough, spotting one may not be impossible. The wildlife reserve is also home to some rare species of animals and birds. The 10th century fort inside the park is another of its attractions.
Return to the Palace on Wheels and leave for Chittorgarh at 1030 hrs.
Day 05: Chittorgarh (Sunday), Arrive - 1600 Hrs
Reach Chittorgarh after lunch on board the Palace on Wheels.
Chittorgarh is a city that reverberates with countless tales of its past. It symbolizes love, honor and the spirit of sacrifice so effortlessly displayed by its valiant people. Discover the 7th century Chittorgarh Fort and learn about its history before returning to the Palace on Wheels.
The train leaves for Udaipur at 0530 hrs.
Day 06: Udaipur (Monday), Arrive – 0730 Hrs
Reach the city of Udaipur in the morning.
Udaipur, the lovely “City of Lakes” was founded by Maharana Udai Singh in the 16th century. The city is home to a good number of attractions like the Jag Niwas, Jag Mandir and the City Palace complex. Also enjoy a sumptuous lunch in Udaipur followed by a visit to the Crystal Gallery in the evening.
Proceed to Bharatpur on board the Palace on Wheels in the evening.
Day 07: Bharatpur (Tuesday), Arrive – 0630 Hrs
Arrive in Bharatpur in the morning.
Bharatpur is home to the renowned Keoladeo Ghana Bird Sanctuary. The sanctuary that is home to more than 300 species of local and migratory birds. Some of birds also come from faraway places like Siberia and China.
Drive to Fatehpur Sikri.
Fatehpur Sikri is the ambitious capital built by Mughal emperor Akbar. However, an acute scarcity of water forced him to abandon this capital after 12 years. Nevertheless, this red sandstone complex is indeed a great place to visit.
Leave for Agra at 1145 hrs.
Day 07: Agra (Tuesday), Arrival – 1430 hrs
Set out on a sightseeing tour on arrival in Agra.
Tour includes a visit to Fatehpur Sikri, the deserted capital of Mughal emperor Akbar. Later visit the ethereal Taj Mahal, the marbled wonder that has mesmerized millions till date. It was built by Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his wife Mumtaz Mahal and is one of the most beautiful monuments dedicated to love.
Return for dinner onboard the Palace on Wheels that leaves Agra at 2300 hrs. Enjoy a good night’s sleep onboard.
Day 08: Delhi (Wednesday), Arrive - 0600 Hrs
Arrive at the Safdarjung Railway Station in Delhi at 0600 hrs.
